President’s Message

Local 527 has come a long way since we received our charter in 1997. As an organized work force, we have been able to improve through Collective Bargaining our wages, benefits and other conditions of employment.   With our third and current CBA, our wages  continue to improve and we successfully bargained for a health and  welfare plan that is more affordable than most offered in this area  (while maintaining our benefits)  despite the rapidly escalating cost  of healthcare and prescription drugs. This CBA also introduces severance pay and solidifies the Vacant Positions and Promotions procedure.

Being part of the Transport Workers Union has helped us realize a lot of  what originally motivated us to become organized in 1995; however what was fought for and won yesterday and today can easily be lost tomorrow if we don’t remain vigilant and continue to work to strengthen our local.
